Russell Bogdan is a traditional painter of landscapes and and figures with over 25 years of experience doing commissions and shows. He's influenced by a variety of European masters from the past who followed a classical aesthetic. His sheer versatility of genres and techniques (including the ability to work large) separates him from most artists. Also, unlike the bulk of his competitors, Russell does not mechanically copy from photographs but instead creates in a purely freehand manner while striving for a fine art approach in order to hone his natural vision. Hence, he shuns the trend of modern photo-realism which has permeated mainstream art today.

Aside from exhibitions, much of his output has revolved around the time honored path of traditional patronage. During his career, he's received numerous commissions from designers, architects and private collectors internationally, including the United States Capital.  He's been featured on the cover of International Artist magazine and has taught drawing through the Smithsonian and the former Corcoran school, and has also conducted private workshops at our National Gallery of Art.  His interest in historical methods prompted a solo exhibit and lecture given at the Thomas Cole Museum in NY. He's currently writing an educational book on historic drawing methods.
